About This Spot

Stepping inside The Stag's Head Great Doddington feels like settling into the comforting embrace of a classic village pub where time slows just enough for genuine connections and quiet comfort. Nestled along the High Street, this spot carries a welcoming hum — a blend of friendly chatter, clinking glasses, and the subtle rhythm of a well-loved local retreat. The mood strikes a casual, unhurried tone, inviting visitors to unwind over a carefully crafted pint or linger through a thoughtfully prepared meal without rush.

Here, the atmosphere is warm and inclusive, shaped by attentive and cheerful staff who seem to know that beyond service, it’s a sense of belonging that truly matters. The space welcomes families, friends, and visitors alike, effortlessly balancing lively gatherings with cozy corners for more intimate moments.

The kitchen offers a quietly confident menu that supports this inviting spirit. Whether it’s tucking into a generous Sunday roast, savoring something a little more adventurous like a touch of Wagu beef or Malaysian curry, or simply enjoying a fresh salad or a slice of perfectly toasted avocado with halloumi, there’s a harmony of comfort and curiosity on the plate. The thoughtful attention to dietary needs and the care taken around allergy considerations gently underscore how much this place values the individual experience.

Evenings here might unfold over a classic gin and tonic, or perhaps something sweet and unexpected like a coffee granita or a rich chocolate brownie — small pleasures that punctuate time spent in good company. The Stag’s Head feels less like a destination and more like a welcome pause in the day, a place where the local heart beats quietly beneath the surface of everyday life, always ready to embrace new and familiar faces alike.

What a wonderful Sunday lunch experience! The staff couldn't have been more welcoming. Every single member of staff was helpful, smiley and just absolutely lovely. They were also really attentive and fun with my 8 year old daughter despite being busy with some big parties. Due to one of our party having a dairy allergy, they double checked with the chef what she could safely eat. This was greatly appreciated. The food was reasonably priced and delicious. The brownie was incredible. Thank you! It's been a long time since we had such first class service.

I went for Sunday lunch here with my partner’s family and was impressed by the experience! The staff were really friendly and accommodating which always makes eating out nicer. They had gluten free options and the staff were keen to make sure I was happy with the order which meant a lot as often I feel difficult having dietary restrictions. I had the Sunday roast, pork belly and they were able to do Yorkshire pudding, gravy, roast potatoes etc. so pretty much the same just gluten free! Thanks so much, it’s a lovely old pub too, would highly recommend.

Wow, what a lovely place!!! Delicious food and really cosy interior. Tomato soup was sooo good and pizza second to none. Pork belly ideal and Yorkshire pudding great. I would only made gravy a little less bitter but that was me. Great place!!!

What a lovely venue! We booked their private room for our wedding reception and the team did not disappoint! The food was absolutely beautiful, the service was on point and the staff were so accommodating! 10/10 would recommend this venue for any do and certainly will continue to come back! Thank you for making our little wedding extra special!

Delicious Sunday lunch last week with the in laws. We didn’t like the table we were initially sat at (there was a low wall/shelf that we thought could be risky) so we asked to move and we were sat at a very light, open table near the bar which was preferred. I had the salt and pepper squid for starter, and it was light and tasty, not greasy at all. The pork belly bits were not a favorite of the group, but Cauliflower bang bang was a nice alternative. We all chose the Steak and ale pie for main - winner!! This is the best pie I’ve had in a long while. Not a brakes special, this was a thick slice of a pie, and it was top to bottom full of steak To finish the meal, Affogato was on the menu which I hadn’t tried before, but love coffee, so went for it. I wasn’t disappointed. I don’t usually like ice cream but it was different and I enjoyed it. The brownie looked scrumptious - I had a bit of food envy! Walt was our server: he was really friendly and made sure that we had everything we needed. Most importantly, he put up with our banter and engaged with us - harder to find that you think! Will certainly return for Sunday lunch again

Lovely family Sunday roast. What a stunning pub, lovely interior, ample parking. Food was delicious, really ample sizes but for those that have smaller appetites could order a smaller roast which really suited our group. Will definitely visit again when in the area. We had reserved for our table of 6 a few days beforehand.
